What is Digit?
June 6, 2007 by Pareen
I picked up an issue of Digit.
Digit is a monthly Information Technology magazine published by Jasubhai Digital Media Pvt. Ltd since 2001. It is an Indian IT magazine with a circulation of about 120,000. Its tag-line is “Digit >> Your technology navigator.” says Wikipedia.
While I was sure of buying it, the vendor said in a hurry, “This month it costs 200 rupees”. I was shocked for a second. The price of a magazine which is already looked upon as an expensive one by many (at rupees 125) increased by more than 60 percent in one shot!
But I had to take a look. And then it struck me: this is the 6th anniversary special. So I bought it. Actually I, like many others, am crazy about it. I was trying to figure out the reason and this post is the result of that.
What is it that attracts me to the magazine vendor in the first week of every month?
I summarize it like this:
Digit in 2 words: Information Overload
Digit in 3 words: Something for everyone
Digit in 4 words: Expensive; worth that cost
Digit in 5 words: For everyone: layman to geek
Digit in 6 words: Most Interactive magazine I’ve ever seen
Digit in 7 words: Gives Unbiased strong opinion with good reasoning
Digit in 8 words: Easy to get addicted; tough to live without
Digit in 9 words: Lots and lots and lot and lots of Ads
Digit in 10 words: By far the best, and way ahead of the competition
Digit in 1 word: Digit !!!

A good magazine to summarize. But don’t you think that asking for 200 rupees is a bit too much?
Hey Ajay!
It’s our sixth anniversary issue for chrissake! Lookit what ur getting for a measly 200 bucks - a special phatter issue of the mag, a 200 page guide to Windows Vista, Microsoft Office 2007, a dual layer DVD + DON on a DVD. You better believe that its worth it. Subscribe if you wanna avail of the discounts.
Cheers bro!

Thanks a lot for appreciating…I really did not expect this good response (I am still wondering how did you guys at Digit stumble upon this post?)
Thanks a lot to all. I hope I have not missed out on anything.
Sanket: 8 years is quite long…many of us were in DOS mode back then
. And I would love to work with such wonderful people but I don’t think I am good enough a writer to be at Digit. Thanks anyways…
Jitendra Soni: You guys have made such a wonderful magazine so that I could write about it. Surprise gift sounds great…
Ajay: Actually, yes and no! Talking of this particular issue, I think the “magazine” is great (really), and I would pay 200 bucks for it. But, I feel they could have cut the price by not providing Don - it was useless. DVD was great as usual (especially webaroo).
Kabir Malkani: You too would agree that price has always been a controversial issue with Digit. But, people like me and Ajay (I’m sure) feel for the magazine and its content the most. Personally, I could have paid 200 just for the issue. But, I am still wondering whether the 75 extra that I paid were to watch Don (for which I have already wasted 150)?
Pardon me for taking so long to reply.
